J.W. Dant was a brand started by Joseph W. Dant in Dant’s Station, Kentucky. The distillery was built in 1870 and continued to produce until it closed during prohibition. In 1936 the brand was re-born under new ownership, using the old Gethsemane distillery, with Joseph’s son George W Dant managing. The operation was purchased by National Distillers in 1940, United Distillers in 1944, and finally Schenley in 1952. Ultimately the brand was sold to Heaven Hill in 1987, where it remains today.
